Home Exterior Design Ideas

First impressions count and the exterior of your home is no different to the clothes you wear.  Turn heads with striking cladding, blockwork and timbers, you’ll have the street green with envy and loving it!

Let’s walk through some options for your home.

Fibre Cement Cladding

Diverse in achieving architectural style or a traditional weatherboard look, cement based cladding opens up the creative flood gates.  It has a versatility to mix and match profiles for an innovative house design paired with high quality performance in harsh climates.

Getting the look right is easy with the Scyon range:

Linea – With the same visual attributes and charm as timber weatherboards, Linea is perfect for achieving a traditional, classic or coastal look.  It’s manufactured to not crack, swell or shrink like authentic timber weatherboard making it a durable choice.

Matrix – If you are seeking a contemporary finish, Matrix takes on a modern play with pattern.  Consider panel layouts, colour palette and joint colour for an edgy finish to your exterior.

Axon – Easily compatible with any style, Axon is suitable for classic or modern homes.  Choose from an option of widths and/or wood grain finish, and the vertical lines will give your home a sense of height to be admired.

Stria – Characterised by its raked lines, go skinny, wide, vertical or horizontal to achieve the style you like.

When is comes to colour, Scyon products require painting, but hey…  that gives you more opportunity to let your personality shine through right?  We do suggest the Colorbond colour range to compliment the design with your roofing, gutters, fascia and windows.

Concrete Look

People love the look of concrete, but it’s not a user friendly application.  So you need to know about Cemintel BareStone.  Despite its concrete appearance, BareStone is a lightweight pre-finished fibre cement cladding (no paint required).  For a contemporary look of raw cement, the low maintenance BareStone is a winner.  With the look of concrete combined with exposed fixings and expressed joints, you can achieve an industrial feel to your custom home.

Timber Cladding

Striking timber cladding is a beautiful design feature to any project.   Choose a concealed ‘tongue in groove’ fixing system that detracts from visible nails and screws.  We love Euclad, developed by Barwon Timber, with six species to choose from.  As with all timber, if you want to maintain that lush golden glow, it is important to apply stain every six to twelve months.  Alternatively, you can let it weather naturally for silvery tones.

Concrete Blockwork

If you like the look of bricks, consider concrete blockwork as a feature.  Finishes include smooth, honed, polished and rockface, we like the selection by Selkirk for custom home projects.

Render with Board System

For a seamless finish to your exterior, wall rendering can be used on small features or large scale walls.  Using a rendering board system eliminates the requirement of bricks and is highly energy efficient making it a sustainable choice.  Render can be customised with textures and applied onto the board then painted.

For many years steel has been a popular building material for durability, maintenance and flexibility.  Colorbond steel walling products have excellent thermal performance and 22 colour ways which means lots of choice and no painting!  Achieve the style you want with a selection of profiles including, Cassette, Standing Seam, Longline and Custom Orb.
